    INTRODUCTION

    Human resource management is basically a procedure of recruitment, selection, training & development, inducting, motivating as well as maintaining a good environment in an organisation. It is an important function of an organisation which provide companies a talented and skilled workforce (Anderson, Fontinha and Robson, 2019). In these present report, Sainsbury is chosen as a base company. It is a biggest retailing chain as well as supermarket. The company head office in Holborn, United Kingdom and have more than 1420 outlets worldwide. Sainsbury was formulated by John James in year 1869. The current report covers the roles & functions of HRM along with the methods of selection and recruitment as well as its advantages or disadvantages. Furthermore, there is a discussion about various Human Resource Management practices and its benefits to employees. Later, it covers the significance of employee relation within the organisation.

    P1: Explain the purpose and the functions of HRM, applicable to workforce planning and resourcing an organisation.

    Overview about the company: Sainsbury's  which is 3rd largest supermarket in the UK, found by John James Sainsbury in the 1869. It has  share of 15.30% of the supermarket sector.  John Sainsbury opens a shop in London which become largest retailer of groceries stores in the market. Tesco and Asda become  first and second leader in the groceries market after then Sainbury came third largest supermarket in the environment . The holding company Sainsbury b plc, split into three division such as Sainsbury's supermarket,Sainsbury 's bank and Sainbury 's Argos. This reports provide that Sainbury's  uses HR policies for the development of the organisation by improving the customer services and increasing sales for the organisation. Under HRM, various strategies are taken care from recruitment, selection, training and development of the human resource in the organisation. This company has various branches located at different areas of the country selling many product. Here top management team makes important decision regarding the policy of the human resource management. 

    Purpose of HRM: The aim purpose of human resource management is to help the organisation  to achieve the goals and objective by providing competent employees in the organisation. The HR manager make sure that available human resources are utilize to the fullest of their capacity by increasing the job satisfaction and  self actualisation in the workplace. Another purpose of HRM is to have a ethical policies and behaviour inside the organisation so that there is a formal way of communication in the company. It also concentrates on the internal sources of competitive advantages as people of the organisation are considered as a important asset. HR leads the cycle of employment from hiring the right employees to reviewing the performance of the employee in the given task. They are proactive in their relationship with its people and believes in enhances the organisation performance from time to time.  

    Functions of HRM:

    Their are  three types of function such as operative, advisory and managerial which are discussed as follows in the context of Sainbury's :

    Operative function: it includes functions like recruitment, training and development,compensation and benefits and performance appraisal. The HR team of Sainsbury's   perform this function with due diligence as their have to recruit the right candidate for the organisation and make sure the such employees go thought the training and development programs for improving the performance and get various appraisal for giving their best outcomes in the workplace.

    Managerial function: This function includes planning, organizing , directing and controlling in the organisation.
